I see lots of people using them to simply soften the park hard water so they can use it for showers and such. My questions are... 1) I assume to use the water softener for my RV, that I would need a filter set up near my RV kitchen sink to make it drinkable like at a house? 2) How long does it last between charges? How do I know it's time? Thanks Tim
1. Yes, this is not intended as a drinking filter as it is a water softener. To make the water drinkable you would either want an additional drinking water system or a reverse osmosis system.
2. The length between recharges can vary greatly dependent on the conditions of the water being treated. Harder water means more frequent recharges. At minimum, you want to recharge the unit every 3-4 weeks. The formula for regeneration cycles is 16,000(grains) / (hardness of water in grains per gallon) = Usable Gallons before recharge is needed. EX. 16,000 / 10(GPG) = ~1,600 usable gallons before recharge.
Just purchased the Pro-Aqua - Portable Water Softener Pro 16,000 Grain Premium Grade RV and the Re-Gen kit. Some are saying it is ready to use right out of the box. Does that mean I don't need to do the salt re-gen process right out of the box? Please advise. Thanks. William
That is correct, the unit comes charged.
All you have to do is flush it for about 5 minutes to remove any loose media and color.
