In this review, the user unboxes and installs the PRO+AQUA whole house water filter system (PRO-WELL-100-E) purchased on Amazon to improve water quality from a well that occasionally carries sediment, especially after heavy rains or pump adjustments.
The unboxed system features brass fittings and includes three filtration stages:
- A sediment filter for dirt, sand, silt, turbidity and rust
- A CRK filtration media blend that targets hard water minerals, heavy metals, and hydrogen sulfide
- An activated coconut shell carbon block that removes VOCs, chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, odors, and bad taste
The water supply enters from the right side (labeled “inlet” on the system), and flows through the three filter stages from right to left, exiting on the left (where it will then enter your house plumbing).
Each filter is recommended to be replaced every 4–6 months, as noted on the box and filter labels. The longevity of your filters depends on water quality and amount of water usage.
Additional components include:
- Multiple brass fittings (with threaded, ¾", and 1" pipe compatibility sizes)
- A filter removal tool
- Mounting hardware (screws and bolts)
- Both a printed and QR code installation guide (which also includes a QR code to the compatible replacement filters)
The installation guide shows the flow setup:
Water comes from the well, through the pressure tank, optional bypass, 3-stage filter, optional well water filter (recommended addition), softener (recommended addition), and UV filter (recommended addition) before entering the home. The user already has soft water and only needs the 3-stage filter.
The installation plan involved routing the main water line to the right, up the wall, and back down, ensuring accessibility and efficient flow. He notes that vertical routing doesn’t affect water pressure as long as the return level remains the same.
Using a level and a straight edge, he marks mounting points on the wall, and suggests removing the pressure gauge beforehand to make it easier to use a power driver. The filter has about 18 ½ in (47cm) between the two ends.
Mounting it higher on the wall allows easier access to the filters when it comes time to replace them. Now that the system is mounted, he begins routing the water supply from the source to the inlet, and from the outlet to the house.
He considers the benefit of adding a bypass valve so that if there’s ever an issue with a filter, he can run the water supply past it. You can do this with a T-fitting and shutoff from your hardware store.
For plumbing, he used Schedule 40 PVC, applying purple primer and pipe glue, ensuring a secure bond with a twist-and-hold technique. He also applies plumbers tape before attaching it to the filter outlet with a wrench.
After completing the install, he confirmed everything was functioning well, with pressure gauges reading correctly after adjusting the one he had overtightened.
So far, he’s pleased with the outcome.
